The 2019 Hyundai Elantra sedan and Elantra GT hatchback received a four-star overall rating from the NHTSA (out of five stars). Sedan models received the 2019 Top Safety Pick + award from the IIHS after scoring Good on all crashworthiness tests and the headlights when equipped with the optional LED headlights (Good is the highest score). The standard halogen headlights got a Poor rating. On the front crash prevention test, the Hyundai Elantra sedan got a Superior rating in the vehicle-to-vehicle impact and Advanced on the vehicle-to-pedestrian impact (Superior is the highest rating). The Elantra GT hatchback has similar scores to the sedan but the LED headlights are only rated Acceptable when equipped with automatic high beams, limiting its IIHS performance to Top Safety Pick (with no +). In the 2019 Elantra sedan, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, driver attention warning, lane keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and lane departure warning are standard on all but the base SE trim.
